Nehemiah Maull was a Delaware River Pilot born in 1737. In an ironic twist of fate, on one of the rare occasions he was sailing Delaware Bay on a ship not under his command, he was wrecked on a shoal and killed. The shoal was named in his honor, with his name shortened to "Miah Maull Shoal". It took a long time for the US Lighthouse Service to get around to it, but the caisson style lighthouse that marks the shoal was erected in 1909.This piece by Scaasis Originals of Neptune NJ is unique in that none of the other lighthouse miniature makers; Harbour Lights, Lefton or Danbury Mint, ever chose to create a replica of Miah Maull Shoal, so if you want a figurine of this light, this is pretty much it.
